Science and Policy Initiative (CASPI)

CC Research Clusters

As part of the scoping activities being undertaken by CASPI, it is proposed to identify the climate change research areas by recognising a set of principal 'Climate Change Capacity Clusters' at the University of Melbourne. The proposed capacity clusters are listed set out here for discussion and development:

1. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries (Faculty of Land and Food Resources, Forest and Ecosystem Science Institute, Bushfire CRC).

2. Climate and climate impact science (School of Earth Sciences, Centre for Environmental Stress and Adaptation Research, School of Botany, School of Zoology).

3. Water (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UniWater, Centre for Environmental Applied Hydrology, eWater CRC, CRC for Irrigation Futures).

4. Social and economic impacts of CC (Australian Centre for Science, Innovation and Society, School of Population Health, McCaughey Centre, School of Social and Environmental Enquiry, The Melbourne Institute, Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Foundation for Sustainable Economic Development).

5. Energy – efficiency, renewable and alternative (Faculty of Engineering, Centre for Automotive Research and Testing, International Technologies Centre, Victorian Eco-Innovation Laboratory, CRC for Greenhouse Gas Technologies).

6. Urban Transport & Built Environment (Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, Australasian Centre for Governance and Management of Urban Transport, Infrastructure Protection Group).

7. Data and communications infrastructure (NICTA Victoria Research Laboratory, Department of Geomatics, CRC for Spatial Information).

8. Decision making and support (Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Australian Centre of Excellence for Risk Analysis, Department of Geomatics, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering).
